Are The Foods You Eat Making You Sick?
One in two Hong Kongers have allergic reactions to milk and eggs, with foods such as gluten and soybeans also near the top of the list.
You might think you are not affected, but think again...
There are two types of allergic reactions:
Immediate Reaction (IgE antibody)
An Immediate Reaction is the obvious kind with immediate and dramatic reactions such as skin rashes, itching lips, swelling throat, stomach pain, asthma. Most people think of this when they hear 'food allergy'.
Delayed Reaction (IgG antibody)
A Delayed Reaction is is much less obvious and the reaction may occur several hours or even days after contact with the allergen. Chronic symptons are often the result of unknown and untreated Delayed Reactions such as diarrhea, IBS, constipation, bloating, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, poor concentration, hyperactivity, ear infections, sinusitis, migraines, mouth sores, asthma, muscle and joint paine, eczema, weight gain...
How to Test for a Delayed Reaction (IgG antibody)
Most food allergy checks test only for the Immediate Reaction allergies whilst ignoring the hidden Delayed Reactions. But don't worry, help is at hand! We have tested the Aller-Food Check, a US test-kit which allows you to check for both types of reactions for a basket of 96 Western or Asian foods. Here is how it works: a small amount of blood is collected by poking a tiny needle in one of your fingertips and wiping it with little blood collection strips. This sample is then returned to a US based laboratory who will send you your results within 14 days, together with a rotation diet plan to help you deal with any allergies you might have.
In Hong Kong, the Aller-Food Check is available from HK BioTek Ltd. The price for the Delayed Reaction food test is $2,300. Just give them a call on 2763 1488 or visit their website
