Raven Hanson is a model, writer and designer based in Hong Kong. You have most likey seen her face in a TV commercial for Olay or Vidal Sassoon where her perfect Eurasian looks entice us to buy more moisturizer or shampoo!
It is one of life's strange facts that even top models featured on billboard posters don't feel that they look perfect all the time - drat! So KellyEngland.com decided to find out what 'beauty' means to Raven!
What beauty means to me... Raven Hanson.
Personally, I love being able to walk out of the house without a full face of makeup, but realistically I look rather like a cavewoman first thing in in the morning.
Yes it's as scary as it sounds. So, in order not to scare the pants off everyone, I've developed a few tricks for looking fabulously 'au natural' from the moment I get out of bed. Shhh!
FIRSTLY IT MUST BE SAID
Beauty is taking care of yourself on every level.
Eat well, exercise, be clean, do what you love and remember that you won't live forever- so enjoy what you've got now!
Having said that, here's a couple of my simple secrets to natural looking beauty that I'll share with you.
KEEP YOUR SKIN CLEAN
- My most beloved beauty item is 'Soft Clean' or 'Perfectly Clean' facewash from Estee Lauder, available in mini-size for $30 from Sasa.
Washing your face is a must before sleep, and this product is an all-in-one cleanser and total makeup remover. It'll even get your waterproof mascara off!
While writing ModelsGuideToHongKong.com I found that the single most important point mentioned by models and industry insiders alike was always, always taking your makeup off - and I've found that Estee Lauder Soft Clean gives the best results with the least effort.
FAKE IT
- I get my lashes permed at Sense of Touch, so that I don't need to curl them daily. Susan's Nails does my gel nails, which I keep at a short natural length and colour, and Susan's also do amazing lash extensions- the most real I've ever seen.
Tying my hair in a high ponytail always gives me a more 'awake' look, and I've had a soft curl set into my hair so that it's always got a sexy tousled feel.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE EYES
- Use Bobbi Brown's amazing smudge-free Long Wear Gel Liner in Sepia to draw a fine line above your lashes, increasing the illusion of fullness. I will never, EVER leave the house with messy eyebrows- and don't recommend you to either! Keep them tidy- they frame the eyes and make all the difference between a fab or shab look. Using an eyebrow brush to comb my eyebrows with a quick light swipe of hairspray gives that manicured touch and then I'm set to smile my way through the day looking effortlessly fabulous.
MAKE THE EFFORT
- take the time to wash the makeup off, to moisturise, to pluck stray eyebrow hairs, to drink water, to eat a piece of fruit.

Jennifer : I never let anyone touch my eyebrows- I brush them straight up and then only pluck a little underneath.
Hope : I'm sure Kelly would know the best products, and has probably listed them on the site someplace. Be careful of dyeing - only a few shades lighter or darker than your natural brow colour is ever really ok.

Kelly just showed me this link and i of course pressed on your name.
I dont know if you can recall but i worked with you 2-3 times 6-7yrs ago when i was living in hk. you my dear..have fantastic skin and a very humble personality. something that i feel most models lack. I still have a blurry image of when i first met you for this job...we were doing some demo for makeup and as i spotted you...i thought you had already put make up on. little did i know as i got close and started to work together..you had natural pink lips and skin to die for...plus eyebrows that needed nothing but it natural beauty. i for one think that you havent change at all since i last saw you. in fact to me you look younger in this photo. i give you a big compliment by telling you that i am REALLY bad with names...though i raved about you to your agent and did it again after this other group shoot with several models involved..and then there was one more but i don't remember ..anyways. i believe beauty is not just from the outside...its also what you have inside.since i have met you and talked to you ..i know that you are worth being a girl to envy. yes boys..this one is worth admiring. polite and very humble..plus P.S i was having easy time working on your face and i think i could of done nothing yet people still would of thought i worked on it...u have a smile and face that really does make even me remember.and trust me. i have worked on a lot through these last 15yrs. hope all is well. keep up the good work!!! |

I have very thin eye brows. Would you suggest having then dyed semi permanently and which are the best makeup brow products (wax, pencil type) and brushes to buy?
